So this is like - post an instruction that will contribute to the building of a song.
Not: - Creating sounds
- making the song song sound better

basically - someone should be able to follow these instructions and get a song at the end of it.

Follow my lead:

in no particular order
1. add a kick drum
2. add a snare, hi hats
3. add a bass line
4. create a return track with delays/reverb
5. get a sample from somewhere and add it to your track. (eg a voice sample or whatever)
6. resample a part of your track that sounds good, and use a sampler to repeat that sound through out the track. (I've been using this to get gritty type sounds that come from a heap of effects on return channels).
2 Days, 21 Hours ago 7.use synths/samples/whatever the fuck to get a bunch of good hook sounds to play percussively.
8. make some kind of build up sound, then a hit or a crash, and then take some sounds out/change some sounds etc. (breakdown)

I have a realtek high definition audio card in my macbook and was wondering if this is good enough for psytrance production? I also checked the VST audio system in device set up and the only driver i can choose from is "ASIO direct x full duplex driver" Probs just dont have the best drivers for it?

The input and output latency seem really spastic compared to the video that actually told me to check it in the first place. I am watching the first couple videos from this website.....http://www.vtc.com/products/Cubase-4-tutorials.htm These type of tutorials are just what i have been looking for and are much more for beginers rather the the cubase guru course which claims to be! Its not based around psytrance tho but hopefully will teach me some of the basics needed to be able to follow the guru course.

The input latency is 325.079ms
output latency is 57.975ms
sample rate 44100.0Hz

The guy in the tutorial has both latency at like 23ms and it doesn't even show sample-rate. This is probably because he is using version 4?

so this is my second-last day at my current job, and as a reward for working hard over the past couple of years i took my Boris bike (seriously, they're awesome) for a nice long ride at lunchtime and found a quiet pub just off Regents Park. once safely inside with a cold pint and lunch on order i realised with horror i had nothing to read. no soundonsound, no arb audio articles, not even mobile interwebs! the landlord had a copy of the mirror (shudder) and the mail (vomit) so idly i turned my eye to the obligatory games-and-cheap-books shelf. lo and behold there was a Britannica 'Year in Science' compendium from 1974. since i'm writing a speech about changes in clinical practice since 1974 i decided to have a quick flick through, only to find....

...a chapter on physical modelling of stringed instruments! :D :D :D

Afternoon everyone.

Another advice request from moi :s

I just recieved my new Audiofire 4 sound card in the post. I plugged it all in and installed the drivers.
It powers up, but the computer can't find the device.
It's powering up via firewire, I plugged a mic into both main mic inputs and got a signal, could hear it through headphones (didn't have time to connect the outputs up and that).

When I open the software it says that the device can't be found, I plug the firewire in and it powers but I don't get any "found new hardware" messages.

Any ideas?

ok guys, i just came across with this app named Midiquest XL 10.0.3

i never used it...

but the description about this software is very interesting, as far i understood its an app able to integrate all types of hardware synths into a DAW, creating an emulation from the synth as VSTI, allowing you to controle the entire machine from that same vsti, incluiding automations (like the Total integration options in acess virus series i think...)

and this is quite exciting, first because i am a great fan of old synths, and virus TI its a litle expensive for my pocket... old synths are much easier to buy, but unfortunaly they dont offer software support, so it turns them a litle bit dificult to use in pc sequencers, but this definity may give them a new chance...and
turn things more easy to work with that material

so i would like to know if someone here allready used this application, and if it realy works well??
if it provides minimal latence, if you realy can work out only from midi, without need to render the synth mix down the synth into audio...

you can read more about in the website

Hi guys,

I have a situation:
Im doing a VS track and I've exported everything at 44.1Khz, 24bit in cubase and send it to my mate who is on Fruity Loops 9.

When he opened up the tracks the first few where ok but as he loaded them into the project the computer got slower and slower.

Now, we thought it may be because we are working with 24bit because he had worked on songs with the same ammount of tracks b4 and had no problems...

So I've exported everything to 16bit (not very happy about it but there you go).

Surprise? No...

The problem carryed on, he tryed to update the soundcard, got Asio4All and nothing.

Any of you ever run into a prblem like this b4?

Thanks in advance.

I've recently been thinking of building myself a new computer and it seems a hackingtosh quad core i7 extreme with a gigabyte motherboard is a very viable option. There are numerous different install methods available and to be honest I don't know which way to go. Ideally. I would like to do it as close to a vanilla (retail os x) install as possible.
It seems that many gigabyte motherboards are natively supported by OSx and as such you have less install and code trickery to do if you use one of them. I'm curious to see if anyone here has built or used one of these systems and if so, how have they functioned with Logic pro. Could anyone recommend an OSx install method that worked well for them?

Cheers

I don't mean over the course of a track, but when writing hat lines and rythems, how many different hats do you use?

I have found myself writing hat lines using up to 4-5 different hats/shakers/cabassas etc. Reckon this is too many?
I know it's what works for you, what you do with your tools and so on, but was wondering if there is a recommended amount of hats to use in hat lines, if over a certain amount you feel it becomes too cluttered?

Plus I am also curious what methods people use to come up with creative drum patterns.
Given the nature of K K+S K K+S of most trance it seems to somewhat limit the variation possibilities (if you stick to the conventional formula that is). So the majority of the variation appears to be in the hats, so any tips on creating nice sounding, driving hat lines?

In these days of digital segregation I tend to keep my music computer free of everything except my own stuff. But plugging my iPod in through my sound card I'm rediscovering the Mumford & Sons album, and it's rather well produced!!

Nothing to do with clock settings, and the only way around it is either to render the track in real time, which sometimes works, and the only other way which sometimes works is to reboot my machine, open up the project and export it to audio as the very first action performed. But even that doesn't always work.

Absolutely no idea why this happens. Most of the time it's absolutely fine.
