    Default usb hub problems

    Hi,

    I might have bought a hum dinger, but any one have problems with usb hubs? Im forever unplugging my mouse, dongles,keyboard,midi devices?

    Anyone know about usb power problems and how much you can dram from one usb hub? Its a 20 port usb hub going into 1 usb port, and i never managed to get it to work properly!

    If it has external power then it would be advisable to use that as you will no doubt have power issues. I have a small 4 port hub, and that gives me grief on occasion.

    Mate I feel ya pain,
    there is agreat article at DJTechtools on it with some recommendations on ones to go for that have been tried and tested with audio in mind.

    hmm, still having quite a few problems with this, anyone got any more tips? Plugging the power supply in, doesn't seemed to have helped?

    20??? erm..yeah that would give problems, but then you can have problems with one device on a twin port if the power draw is enough. Is it self powered or does it plug into the mains? If you goto device manager, find USB ports near the bottom, probly system devices or something then right click you can find out how much each device is using

    each host usb port can provide upto 500mA according to the standard, and devices can request it in increments of 100mA. As the hub its self will be using at least 100mA, you only have 400 left for everything else, so max 4 things. As suggested, plug in its power adaptor, which means the hub should be able to source 500mA on all output ports.
    It is better to have a small fire and a big pile of wood, than a big fire and a small pile of wood.
