What are your musical guilty pleasures? The most embarrassing, cheesy music that you secretly enjoy.

    Here are two of mine:

    Love "good" pop music.

If I like something I wouldn't be embarrassed about it, that's daft.

I have an odd fascination with 1950s lounge music. I spent a while listening to stacks and collecting a crate or so of LPs - but then set them free again. I was more into snippets of it rather than whole tunes - but the lushness of some it was delicious - playful too with new joys of stereo and hifi recording technology. I can't quickly find examples to post - I think Dot records oddly stood out with their little section on using movie film tape to record stereo tracks onto and info about set ups for best hi-fi experience!

I was quite taken with the Gentle People - gently strange stuff on Reflex - and they had a slogan on an EP about "embracing the primula aesthetic" - but it wasn't pointing and laughing at all the ripeness - more basking in the sunshine drifting through the palm trees and sashaying from the hammock for shuffles in the pink sand and turquoise seaside.

seems like Trunk records does a decent job of curating an archive of slightly warped records - with 50p friday offers and wavs of stuff available. From their site, here's a track from Les Baxter's 1961 jewels from the sea album. trunk records shop

Maybe not guilty, but I do feel shifty and inappropriate when I rock out Pharrell Williams Come Get it Bae in the car. It's just so damn funky.

    Alright. Maybe a bit guilty.

What is going on with this? Is it performance art? Am I too old?

I'm struggling with the live performance...

Yes yes it is, they set up a fake label called PC music, the idea is to fabricate pop idols, a bit like they do in japan, upping up the saccharine until it becomes some hyperreal nightmare staring into your soul.
It would all fall in the camp of post-modern sneer if the amount of professionalism put into the joke didn't exceed the one put in a lot of things that want to be taken seriously.

Thank goodness for that. In that case: interesting, and less scary. :Good:

    Did you get my postcard?
