Here's one reason they weren't better than this 'ere new Millenium - I had not discovered them yet, or indeed any of you jaded grumpies, and was entirely absent from all of the above. Trance on, 21st century! :frolic:

    16. No internet forums for us all to moan on after parties. Maybe that helped with perpetuating the PLUR!

There were mailings lists (ask your grand dad) in the mid 90s and definitely a few forums by the mid/late 90s to moan about how it wasnt as good as it used to be...

being jaded is like rolling around in the last 10 years of shite that's come out of your arse / mouth and reveling in it in a very sadistic manner

i hope i never get there.

    indeed!

but it's not the brixton academy any more, it is the carling academy and the soul has been ripped out of the fucking place

yep, and the way is shit.

i was going to do a "top 10 reasons why parties are better in this millenium" but i got stuck at number 3. no 1 was space tribe is no longer in fashion, and you don't see many men wearing leggings.

    it might be... but yes

i think i covered that in number 10, mate ;)

    you're too kind ;)

that would have made my other list if i'd thought of it ;)

dude, i honestly don't think i am that jaded. i don't have as much time to put my heart and soul into it any more, and i don't have as much of my heart and soul to put into it cos i is a family man now, innit, buuuuuuuuut, i still love psytrance, i still love the scene and i still dj and put on parties. however, i honestly think it was better back then, for all the reasons listed, and i feel very privileged to have been a part of something so special. having experienced it then, and experienced it now, and being as objective as i can possibly be, i put my hand on my heart and say it was better back then.

see what john says about number 10 being the biggie. it is the truth.

Conversation between me and someone on the beach in Vagator sometime in December 1995:

Me: The music is pretty good.
Someone: Nah, it was much better a couple of years ago when I was last here.

People used to moan on the TRiP page and folk used to complain loads about Tyssen Street, especially the toilets.

Conversation between me and a DJ who used to play for a couple of UK based labels back in the day:

Me: You heard the new Green Nuns release.
DJ: No, I don't like Green Nuns very much.

Dude....I'm sure if I was at the PWOG gig linked above...I'd have something to say about the whistles...
...but that isn't the point IMO :)

its just great growing up in a party scene, everyone (older) telling you its shite when you are literally having the best time of your life.

    jaded is jaded.

its not that bad. its actually pretty, pretty good.

yeah, and if you'd been two year before, they'd say the same thing about two years earlier. i took a lot of trouble to keep the actual music out of this ;)

yeah, i know, especially near the end when it was becoming even more of a death trap, but it was still full most weekends.

yep, and i didn't much like astral projection for the most part, you're never going to like everything, but that is not the same as the musical segregation that we have these days.

yeah, i agree it is pretty good. never said it wasn't, the london scene needs to be sorted out, but bristol is very nice, thank you very much. its just great getting older in the party scene, everyone younger doesn't believe you when you say how good it was ;)

like i say, deep down, i don't think i am jaded. why would i bother doing what i do if i was?

    They were pretty bad.

And yes Arv, I agree. There have been grumpy chin strokers moaning that it wasn't as good as it used to be all along.

seems to me that nearly any genre of dance music goes through an ongoing spate of segregation of styles and subgenres the longer it exists for. look how many differernt definitions of house and techno there is. the only scenes 'i've been able to witness come in to being and then splinter off are dubstep and breaks. creavtivity of the artists making the music has a part to play in this, and why shouldn't it? leading on from this I think it's inevitable that the unity surrounding that scene will dissipate as people define their tastes and some start deciding there are some sounds and styles they no longer care for. surely this just wasn't an option in 'the beginning' alongside the whole 'it being new' thing.

    true
    ;
and i do think its shit you down on it - i also think its awesome gigs like planet shroom are going on, it is a great line up.

i know it might not ever be 'that' good but going on about it isn't going to make things better. If it was that much better, if everything was THAT good then lets get things back there.

I don't know the London scene, i saw a little bit of the Brizzle scene though and loved it (pieman blew my balls off).

Don't wanna get into the whole north / south divide but up north it seems that we can go out to parties in varying age groups and help each other out to have the best even possible.

maybe age division might be an issue?

    i haven't experienced that.

either way, i get what your getting at but i will never 'get' it as it wasn't my time.

gimmie a couple of years ;)

I think it been scientifically proven we remember the good stuff about the past better than the bad stuff. We're hard wired for the rose-tinted view of life. Maybe that's why it seems it was better back in the day! TBH I have more fun at parties now than I did 10 years ago coz I've got spades more confidence than my twenty something self plagued by insecurites, am less self critical and more outgoing. Though the fashion was better then... Space Tribe deserves a renaissance :p Full on fluorodelica FTW!
