Maybe cause no one thinks, that he was a good drummer?

:baa: :P :hehe: [/quote:8e9e042c3c]
He sucked.

The Doors were Manzarek and Morrison and a handful of good songs. The rest of it was toss.

:D

Erm...

Imho...

 [/quote:8e9e042c3c]
(<<i;m not a musician or anyfing u c  )
Yea fairy snuff but i like his stuff, songs like 'the end' and 'when the musics over' are full of little interesting little fills and trills that lift the whole sound.

A handful: if you like but more than a handful's a waste init????
(does that phrase apply in this situation????? )

I used to do Tae Kwon-Do with said drummer Lawrence Colbert (and Mark Gardener, Ride's singer) and was lucky enough to hear some early mixes of Animahouse stuff... crikey...

I also read an interview with some big-shot producer in Sound on Sound where he spoke about recording some of the Ride tracks, and was seriously over-awed by Mr. Colbert's ability to double-track an improvised drum part first time round...

I used to kick Mark's arse on a regular basis. Loz was a different kettle of fish though, and if he'd been the same grade as me when we went for the British Championships in 2000 it'd have been him walking off with the trophy, not me...

Oh my gosh! Everyone worship Colin! *prostrates self before you*

Colin, I didnt know you were well 'ard.

When i come down to Bristol next time we must have a spar. I used to regularly thrash the living daylights out of a bunch of Tae kwondo lads that thought they were well 'ard in my Shaolin boxing club. All legs and no arms they were. And blackbelts too, I was only purple or brown at that time.

Anyway, back to topic, and must make it quick cos track mixdown is almost completed...

Niko McBrain... seen him not only live but doing his drum clinics too, and the guy is not only the SINGLE most diamond geezer in the whole music biz but an extremely talented and musical drummer (anyone got a copy of his video, i will give blood for it...... drooooooool)

Bonham was pretty fine in the early days

Lars Ulrich has definately got better in recent years since the band came out, s'like he's regretted it ever since and got a mean attitude making his drumming bloody awesome

In the early days of my sound engeneering career I had a jam with Nick something-or-other who was the ex-drummer of The Sugarcubes, he was a cool drummer too......

but of course the champ has to be Animal.

As good as he may be, he's not a patch on Zakir Hussain or his father Allah Rakha ;) If we're talking tabla that is. :speaker:

I'm not; I haven't trained for over 3 years now. I never was, anyway... I could spar ok and I had a good side-kick and couple of good combinations, but the only reason I was British Champ was there were only two other people up for it in my grade/weight category.

Actually, that's bollocks. I was pretty good in my time, helped enormously by the fact that Ted (my instructor) was himself the first black-belt student of the first black-belt student of the originator of TKD.

Here's a photo of us after the competition...

I'm front row, second from right; Mark Gardener is the thug in the back row, second from left and Loz is front row, second from left.

Happy days.

By the way, if you ever run into Jason, (the Asian guy)... DON'T MESS. Lovely lovely bloke but I guarantee you won't know what's hit you.

seems like we have ourselves a little martial arts gang here
i know it seems unlikely that i might be any good at these type of things if you've ever met me cos im a tiny skinny little runt
but I was the south-eastern counties junior kata champion at karate
basically karate was in my family as my brother is 2nd dan
and did it for years aswell, upto about the age of 15/16 when i discovered other things and stopped going

would have gone to belgium i think it was for the europeans if i'd finished in the top 4 at the british champs in the kata, and seeing as i had just won the SE counties and pretty much all the best people were from the SE i was favourite
but in true skwelchy bum style, i bottled it and finished 5th (for fuck sake). i never competed at national level again and soon after gave it all up, when i decided skateboards were much cooler

but still my mum proudly displys a cabinet full of trophies at there house and often reminds me how fit and active i used to be

o yeh, and before organik tries to come over here and shaolin me into oblivion, note the important use of the word junior and kata
much obliged

Ah, come on guys, peace love and unity and stuff. I never entered into competitions, I went to see a few and they were basically a free-for-all so I decided not to enter. Bunch of lunes they were, and very dodgy refereering.

I did spar for a while with an amateur-professional boxer, and those were probably the hardest fights I ever had. Cleaned the floor with me first time, so it was very intersting learning to adapt to his all-guns-blazing style.

Good skills to have, you never know when you might need them (see my post elsewhere on trouble at parties) but not to be used on your mates. Basically Colin looks much too scary in that picture, so I think this is my way of backing out....

1 - Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
2 - Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
3 - Michel Langevin (VoiVod)
4 - Nicke Andersson (Entombed)
5 - Mickey Harris (Napalm Death/Extreme Noise Terror)

In other genres than the death/trash/grindcore-metal styles I used to be majorly into I think Stewart Copeland is one of the greatest talents ever seen behind a drumkit, and that young kid playing drums with Santana on the original Woodstock video....now that is really something else as well.....so far for my memory back to the days that beats were still produced by (wo)men.... B) :P :lol1:
