I've been a fan of Astral Projection since the good old days. So was really looking forward to this. They've produced so many good tunes over the years it must have been a problem deciding what to leave out.

My only criticism is that some of the mixes stray a bit too far from the originals, but all in a good CD providing a good opportunity for more people to experience the talents of one of the scene's founding acts.

hmmm....not overly sure bout this. ok it's great to hear some of the old classics with a bit more y2k funk and groove.

BUT....and it's a very big BUT...

...the tunes have lost a lot of their original subtlety. I love the old astral stuff where the layers and intelligent evolution of the tune is the whole beauty. But the new ones are remixed by the nu-skool israeli crowd, and while I am the last person who is ever going to sing their praises, I am still struck by an unimaginative sound. like they've taken the melodies and bolted them onto bog standard popadom, crunchy israeli skeletons with no futher thought than making the main synth riff an old astral melody.

Yeah, damn right. I completely agree. The tunes have got too much formulaic (spelling?) builds and breakdowns. the classic filtering up/snare roll followed by a 16 bar dramatic build up then a split second silence before bringing back the kick with the new melody that was first introduced in the Dramatic Silence(tm) bit. its all gone a bit Alien Project......which aint a bad thing as long as you don't do it to tunes like People Can Fly and Chaos and Dancing Galaxy and.......EVERY DAMN ASTRAL TOON!!!

The Choas remix is good and so are some of the other tunes, but only in their own right. If I heard them without knowing it was a supposed rmx, most of them wouldnt have even reminded me of the oringinal. Whacking an AP melody over a filtered saw DOESNT QUALIFY A GOOD REMIX!

and they only played 1 hour (the last) @ Rocket last week.....hmm

I agree with you guys - Astral Projection have always (imho) been amazing and they bring to their music a certain something. While it was nice to hear a slightly different take on some of their classics the AP magic was missing. I've got all the original versions and they're good enugh for me. (although an unmixed copy of Mahadeva'99 would be nice ;) )
