Iboga record showing once again why (according to my ears) why they are the best record label. 2 releases in 2 weeks. oh and that doesn't include Frogacult. Whilst Set 3 was good i didn't find it amazing. then along comes Playground and suddenly Iboga can do no wrong once again. I haven't eard Frogacult album yet so can't comment but for me i found some of the tracks on Set 3 a little disappointing. For a start the 1st track had come off the original Beat Bizarre album released in 2001. Granted it is a real gem of a trak but it's a bit lazy(?) to be included on a 2004 compilation. but anyways, i'm not talking about Set 3.
Playground really can do no wrong, some of the best tracks i have heard in so long are included on this CD. there are offerings from FREq and Antix who i feel are some of the best producers in the psytrance genre.
i won't do a track by track review because firstly i am too lazy and secondly because my words won't do most of them justice. All i can say is the Phony Orphants track bassline is out of this world!!! Probably my favourite track on the incredibly good compilation.
Another reason i love this cd so much is because of the melodies in most of the tracks. it's such a nice change to get away from the housey side of things which has 'plagued' 2004. there have been some excellent releases but let's face it, it's house!!
i can't reccomend this cd highly enough, go take a listen, it's awesome. no matter what style of psy you prefer, i'm sure this will appeal. progressive full on whatever. it's psytrance and it's fucking good!!!!!!!
