hey folks --- i'm neil, i live in boston, mass...
as i've been exploring the overall psy-trance scene i've been becoming increasingly excited about it, but at the same time increasingly *depressed* by the current state of trance & electronic music in the u.s.
house music dominates in clubs, as that particular genre of music fuels the alcohol industry. bars love it.
jungle / drum'n'bass can be heard but even it too is often too much for many americans to handle.
trance music sees much less exposure, although when international and epic DJs come to Boston (Tiesto, Oakenfold, Carl Cox, etc.) the shows do typically sell out.
psy-trance, however, is almost completely underground. which in many ways is a positive thing as the scene is more intimate, but it's also frustrating because i think it's the deepest, most positive & spiritually sound form of electronic dance music that has ever existed & more people should be exposed to it & experience it initially in a proper state of mind!
so it's become one of my personal goals to aid the psy-trance scene in Boston. i play with a group called Nikulydin, www.nikulydin.com, comprised of 6 minds with instruments, creating off-the-cuff electronic dance music, from psy-trance to ambient-jungle to deep house to dub. we're a D.I.Y. effort, but slowly getting attention from the public... we will hopefully hit europe in 2005, but for now our attention is on Boston, NYC and New England...
(btw i recently heard a compilation put together by Tempa Records, mixed by DJ Hatcha ... Dubstep Allstars Vol. 1 ... BLEW MY MIND)
