Denon DNS3000 vs. Pioneer CDJ-800?

It's Dom actually ;)

with pioneers you press pause, scroll to cue point then hit cue button....that is then saved until you do same process again......to drop you simple press play, to go back to saved cue point you press cue button.....

whats the crack with the denons?
answers WELL appreciated!! :)

God knows why, but Denon decided to do it differently. With a Denon once you have found your cue position, you then press play to start playing from that point, which also sets the cue point. Pressing the cue button with the unit paused will jump back to your previous cue point (or the beginning of the track if you didn't set one). This is pretty fucking annoying if you're expecting the unit to function like a Pioneer, where you hit cue to store the cue position.

I own Denon DNX1000s but have used the 3000s quite a few times as well.

I must say however that from a DJs point of view I prefer the Pioneer CDJ 800/1000s to any of the Denon models for two important reasons:

Firstly the platter controls are more responsive and easier to judge - the denons all have some inertia which makes them feel sluggish. I don't scratch or beat juggle so I can't comment there, but from the point of view of being able to nudge the speed of a record to keep a mix in time, I find the Pioneers MUCH nicer to use. Secondly (as I mention above) I hate the cue controls on the Denons.

Granted the Denon machines are well made - the Pioneer CDJ800 feels a bit cheap and plasticy to me, but the 1000s seem solid enough

ditto. ive always hated pioneers and thought the performance is nowhere near their reputation. I know its a small gripe but ive always hated the facia on the 1000s too. Too many flashing lights and gimmicks like the display that shows you when the beats gonna drop. No pitch adjust buttons either (like on Geminis).

If you're talking about the display on the 1000s which shows you the loudness of the track, I must say that I find it useful. It's rather like being able to look at a vinyl and judge where the breakdowns are by looking at where the rings on the groove are, which can be a real help when mixing tracks you don't know particularly well

right so its basically all on the play/pause button.......does the cue button not save a cue point then?

The cue button doesn't set the cue point, no. It jumps back to the last cue point, or the beginning of the record if you haven't set one yet.

so whats the point of the cue button if it doesnt save a cue point?

I think he meant to set the cue point, you use the play/pause button, but once the track is playing, and you want to go back to the cue point you're already set, then you press cue.

thats what i though he meant, but i did say 'save' in my question :)

it sounds like a pioneer control, but to return to the cue point, you press play/pause again :)

easy in theory, trickier whilst under pressure/on auto piolet lol!!

thanks verb and gibbon flux for the help :)

Jim, the cue button returns to your cue point, or if none is set, the beginning of the track.

On a Pioneer the cue button is also used to store the cue point when the deck's in pause mode and no cue point is already set. On a Denon this is accomplished using the play button

Clear?

Pioneer all the way man...don't even hesitate, let me ask you something.
In which clubs you've seen the Denon???
Then...in how many you've seen the pioneer???
And again...I play with Serato too, you won't get any latency whatsoever with Pioneer or technics.
With the Denons forget about it, useless.
Have this in mind...only technics or pioneer are real decks, the rest is plain shite.

Never get rid of 1200s! the're the only peice of kit I've bought (15 years ago) which has not only not gone done in value but doubled! I don't know anyone that doesn't regret selling the're decks ;) just save longer on get the CD Js aswell maybe get the Pioneer 200s, (no Scrathing but cheap) or the 400s with scratching, or get traktor or serato which is what I have and is the fucking bomb!!

The man speaka tha trutha!!

havnt read the thread so maybe some else might have said similar things....

there are better decks than pioneer but pioneer are the industry standard, you will find them 95% of the time if you are playing at psy parties, in all other scenes you will prob find 80% pioneer, the rest will be denon, i have never seen technic cd decks in a club or festival, do not buy them, they are terrible!

but if you cant decide to buy pioneer or denon, why not buy one of each? at leastthen you can mater the feel of both then if you are in the awkward situation of arriving in a club and being faced with denons you will know how to use them....later you can always sell one and buy a 2nd hand of the other
