He's just bought a pair of Pioneer limited edition 500s. Seems a few acts were insistent that they wouldn't come to play on anything less.

sad but true <lol>. Wanted to book Big wigs for a nite weve got planned and guess what, they wont play on anything but pioneers.<changed my oppinion of them entirelly :P

but get it rite.......their mkII's  :D <lol>
Ill still be mixing on my TRUSTED gemini 400x's. Its okay tho, cos with my new Beringer VMX 1000, theres more than enough room to plug em all in :P

Guess its what youve practiced on. Just a different series of button pressing and not even finer but just different platter action.

peace,

somebody spilt a glass of wine into the gap round the jogdial of my 800's at a drunken party one time. it still works fine, completly and absolutly fine.

i also dropped my mixer (djm300) out of a box in my hands walking back from a party, it landed face down. in a drunken stupper i went to go and pick it up not realising that i had a half empty can 'o'' beer in the sidepocket of my bag. as i turned the mixer over beer spilt down my arm straight into the mixer.

hugo, i would have paid to see that :P
if i give you one of my broken DJM300's will you act it out again for youve been framed. £250 quid in it for ya ;)

@ Nanook: The Pioneer CDJ500 (both Mk1 and Mk2 versions) have NO anti-shock memory. Hence you need to make 110% certain they are protected from ALL vibrations....

If your venue has a big sound system and/or a suspended floor, you will need a very large piece of foam or other sound-dampening material to isolate the decks effectively or they will skip.

IMHO, the CDJ500 (not the small CDJ500s, they do have shock protection as do the CDJ100, 800 and 1000) are only really suitable for bedroom/home use.

that would be most amuzing N. i can see it now. dunno if id be able to reinact how much i shouted and swore when i did it. i was not best pleased at the time. the question is though, was i really really lucky my mixer didnt end up in the bin, or are they actually quite good??? i dunno im just glad it still works properly

bleep

thats crap. :o i really didnt know that.
ill get a set of those inflatable mats that get used for vinyl decks. Ive played on a set and their pretty good. (think i read in an old mix mag when they came out that Carl Cox carries a pair as standard now ?!??)

and if that still doesnt work. Ill pop em on ebay and at least ive got my trusty Geminis..... ;)

cheers for the flash info Julz,
Peace,

NP, Nanook....

Further (probably useless) info on the Pioneer 500 series:

The laser assemblies are unique to each type (500s is different to the 500/500 II) and are also unique to Pioneer. As a result they are very expensive, whereas most (if not all) other makes including Denon, Numark and Gemini use standard laser mech. assemblies which makes them around £35 each instead of the £100ish for the Pioneer ones.
Furthermore, the Pioneer lasers have, I am informed, a shorter than usual life expectancy...add to this the specific procedures for setting up and calibrating Pioneer decks means a laser replacement clocks in at around £160-170 (and more for the 500s cos of the restricted access) rather than the more usual £50-60...

Some parts (including the case moulding and the main board) are now obsolete for the 500 and 500 II (don't break them or pour liquid in em) and SEME (the parts people) know absoloutly nothing about these models at all (even to the point of denying they existed at all!!)....

Currently you can pick up a pair of working 500 II on ebay for around £350-400 depending on the condition....500s are about £100 more per pair.

Weve got the pioneers in the club and they are always breaking down, usually on drum n bass nights (bloody d&b, they even broke a table last week). The connections are loose, the headphone socket is baggy, and the pots mysteriously pop off. If money was no object I'd go for Allen & Heath for the build quality, but at home I'm happy with my little old numark mixer. The great thing about it is that its got no extras so any mixer I use out is going to have what I need on it. It was second hand when I got it, has been to more parties than my brain was at, and still works!

cheers Julz.
taking all that on board ive just sent em back and got a refund.
Cant be arsed with companies that have got shit customer services <especially Numark vinyl decks>... if ya interested, most of the new Numark decks are digitally calibrated. My mate sent his decks away only to be confronted with a polite note that Numark ltd had lost the software neccessay to correctly re-calibrate his decks! WTF?
So pioneers really are shit then?
Just saved myself £500 so next time you see me, remind me i owe you a pint.
Peace,
N

:D cool...

Funny, though, I have Numark Axis 8s (as well as the Pioneer CDJ500 IIs) and they are pretty good all round, really...Well built, reliable (so far, touch wood) and my experience of Numark service is good, really...they are cheap, efficient and always seem happy to help...

The Denon decks are good, too, though....The new DN1000s seems so much superior to the Pioneer CDJ 500s

agh. Fair.
my Numark coment was aimed strictly at there last 4 years of vinyl decks. To tell the truth, Axis 8's are probably the only cd deck ive not played with. Are they good, and what are they comparible too?
Think im gonna play it safe and check out the Denons. If not itll still be Gemis for me.
Cheers again FJ,
N

Axis 8s are discontinued, now...replaced with Axis 9 (same but with CDJ1000 style jog wheel)....Operationally, they are similar to Denons

Build quality is on a par with Denon/Technics and Waaaay ahead of any Pioneer.

Also check out the Numark CDX-1...most "analogue" feel cd deck around and built supremely well, too...The downside is they are the same size as the (already large) TTX-1 Turntable

right. Ace
<shameless plug comin up.....>, yea, mite be best if i played on a set before i bought them............Whens ya next party? <lol>
glad we agree on the build of pioneers tho. not seen the CDX1 either tho. Dont mind big decks cos it means theyll generally fit i a normal vinyl case/coffin. i do like having my decks in individual cases tho just for ease of weight and transport.
Julz....Have you played on any beringer mixers (vmx's)?
<hold on a minute>...realised this is blatent thread stealing. Or is it thread progression? <lol>

catch ya,
N
