blow me sideways the boy done good! his production is spot on and his tunes are starting to get a lot more tuneful and purposeful..all good!

anyone who was at glade will have some memories reignited for sure.

- party pooper :: yea - the one with THAT sample

- let it all out :: 155BPM! :punk:

spielen-gruven-mit-die-dancen-funk :!:

Going by his set at Glade, this one's not for me.
1. Party Pooper is only good if you're in a small (preferably outdoor) party which might get busted and then only if no-one has ever heard it before (which everyone has). It really doesn't work in a club.
2. 155BPM?? Why???

dunno, really. Sure it will do well though

Some good stuff on here will get a track review together, but I am well impressed. Some good solid building tracks with less starts and stops. more subtle bits and more "tuneful\purposeful" well put fractalated!! I wanna go home and have another listen. My Blue Goa and Take A Look Out There where floating my boat... have to get into the second half of the CD! ;) Good Work Junya!

true mate, but heheh, i was in australia in april and this massive (bigger than the rex) big commercial trance party, it sucked ass mainly but someone (dick trevor?) dropped party pooper, and I saw these two clueless baseball capped australian drongoes look at each other and saw visible signs of worry on their faces...

despite the fact that (1) it's a licensed event (2) it's not an illegal party and (3) YOU'RE IN AUSTRALIA and the bloke's got an ENGLISH ACCENT!

Laugh, I nearly shat.

Well Junya definitely has a sound, and there is the odd crap song, but I don't mind saying I really enjoyd his set at Glade and at Voov and I'll be buying this CD for sure.

Hey Damion, was that club the QBH in Melbourne!? That place really does suck arse! Was it "Bliss" you were at?

Also, don't appreciate your derogative use of the word drongo!!!

Surely, as "drongo" is a derogative you can't use it any other way. Drongo :P

I wanted to like this release.

I really did.

Junya's a great guy and he's played a cracking set for us at Cabbage in the past.

He's so close, but there's something missing from these tracks.

A lot of people have agreed with me on the following:

It's got all the right sounds and effects in all the right places, but they're kind-of predictable you know?

It's all well produced, but given the hype surrounding this release - it's missing groove and depth.

It's almost like Junya's only musical reference points are psychedelic trance without any other influences.

However, I'm sure if Junya keeps it up he'll crack it. I'm rooting for him as much as the next guy.

Having said all that, there is one track on there I might play at my next outing (and I'm not talking about Party Pooper)...

Don't take this as a negative John mate - I expect you're just going to get better as time goes on.

Oh yeah, about 155bpm.

John Senior says he has an ongoing struggle to lower the BPMs whilst John Junior is constantly trying to pull them up.

Maybe John Senior is just showing his age!?

:P

got it in one, and got it in two mate -- staggering, how did you know?? :)

hilarious place, the only club i've ever been to where the sweet spot is in the doorway when you're paying your $$$s to get in. run by the son of the dude who owns the casino, isn't it?

agree. he's going to do some absolute mindblowing classic at some point. bear in mind he's still a nipper, his music'll get more insightful and deeper I think as it goes on... But looking how he can already manipulate sounds and energies, the future's definitely bright.

Actually thinking about it .... Junya = wayne rooney / wright-thomas?

Hmm.... a few years ago I would have been tempted to say the same thing.

However, I find that it's bloody hard to make a tune with a truly psychedelic groove if you're going that fast - for a start, you're barely going to get more than a couple of cycles of the bass wave if you're using 16th notes, which means it's difficult to tell what key the tune is in and can lead to perceptual difficulties on the dance floor.

I guess that's why I find a lot of Junya's stuff sounds more like Hard Trance/House than psychedelic, 'cos it's just bludgeoning you with the beat and not giving you the headspace motivation to dance. Psytrance has to have some space between the noises, otherwise it's just another pounding beat.

As has been said though, he should get a lot better as he progresses...

I've only ever been once, and the thing that strikes me is that it's way to big tondelorate properly, although not sure anyone tries, especially Spiro from Earthcore.

Don't know how owns it, although it used to be called the Queen's Bridge Hotel before the Casino was built and was a complete hole. They've renovated but it sounds like the spirit lives on!
