:!: warning - bored thursday afternoon thread :!:

Instead of wanking around for hours and hours trying thousands of different plugins, none of which I really understand, I've narrowed down to 5 synths and 5 fx and I'm going to use nothing but these.

Gonna try to learn them inside out and get the best out of them. Maybe I'll get some inspiration back if I limit the options I have...

Albino2
Kontakt
Battery
z3ta+
Vanguard

Ohmboyz
Firium
Eqium
Waves
Digital Fishphones

What would you pick? Any essentials you think I'm missing?

If you're certain you want to stop at 5 VSTis I'd also consider whether you really need both Battery and Kontakt, as Kontakt is capable of doing everything Battery can, and more.

Doh! I knew there was something I hadn't thought of... :) in that case I'll bin Battery2 and swap it for Absynth2.
Hmmph.

VSTi's

Imposcar - about 75% of my lead noise come of this. Very sexy arppegiator. Really very sexy filter
Absynth 2.0 (pads, atmos and weird wibblings)
FM7 ( bass bass bass)
Drumatic 3 ( absurdly good at synthesising kick drums, better then anything else out there and it's free )
Battery ( i really like the interface )

VST FX

Reaktor 4's Space Master Reverb (very handy - lovely long tails)
Blockfish (really nice, great sounding easy to use compressor kind on the CPU too)
Kjaerhus's Classic mastering limiter (can't afford waves and this does this job)
Reaktor 4's Echomania (simply the best delay unit I have)
Supaphaser (lovely! wouldn't be without it)

ooh now let me see.....

5 synths/sampler
Z3ta
Korg Legacy
Kontakt
Albino
Vanguard

5 pluggins
Antares Tube
Waves (30 odd plugs in my waves folder, does that count as 1? in particular REQ6)
Luxonix LFX-1310
PSP Nitro
NI Guitar Rig

VSTi

Battery
Stylus
Atmosphere
Trilogy
Minimonsta

FX

1. Waves
2. Waves
3. Waves
4. Waves
5. Waves.

vsti:

battery
z3ta
imposcar
trilogy
atmosphere

fx:

ohmboyz
tc filtrator
tc comp
waves req
blood overdrive

do need more than 5 fx tho, i havent even got a chorus or reverb by that reckoning

I would definitely add a V-Station in your synths and maybe a Moog Modular if you feel adventurous.

and for your effects add Antares Filter and Amplitube

Hmmm, V-station didn't get me going really - just another 3 osc polysynth without any clever tricks up it sleeve? I reckon albino weewees all over it :)
I like the sound and generally barminess of the moog modular, but having to look at it for more than 2 minutes made my eyes burst...

LOL I can see I'm going to have to reconsider my list again

...erm I own the waves plugins..and almost all my software is legit..being endorsed by NI is really very handy!!!

1. Kontakt 2/ Battry 2
---i prefer battery 2's GU for drums..its great for constructing and tweaking kits..faster than |Kontakt 2 for drums, but K2 is an amazing modular sampler ..check the script editor!

2. Reaktor 5...have been using this for a month-i got a beta copy from NI..absolute madness!!!lots of great new ensembles mainly focused on synthetic percussion and groove boxes!! with some truly wacky GUIs: check out the NU Skool ensemble for some Pac man action.

3. Pentagon....mmmmm both silky and meaty

4.Vanguard....has the most amazing hi end "cut" i have ever heard..the arp is truly great too ..a little limited in the LFO dept.

5. Imposccar...for that Posford sound

6.FM7...for digital stuff...i really love this synth. you can get stuck in and make some total stunners..also great fr bass.

7. STYLUS RMX...not a ROMPLER fan at all but this little gem is great .. very quick and simple

8. Absynth 3---for strangeness and evolving pads.....ATMOSPHERE is a load of crapolla IMHO

9. Minimoog (a real one)

10. Zeta3

FX

WAVES
TC POWERCORE
REAKTOR 5
DUB PLUGS
OZONE
ANARCHY FX

for me it would have to be

for sounds
battery (couldnt live without it)
synth1(the ultimate. and free)
absynth (although i still havent got the hang of this, ie whenever i get a good sound its completely by accident)
fm7
kyoto plucked string (a particularly lush sounding physical modeller)

for effects;
smart electronix ambience
sonitus ultrafunk compressor (extremely tweakable)
ohmboys
voxengo tempo delay (with this and ohmboys you will never be left wanting)
fruity granulator (not just cos i like to mix it up a bit, this really is a stunningly good plug)

hehe well.... : )
battery... - my songs would essentially have no drums or samples without it... : /
zeta+ - the source of most of my harmonic nonsense
pro 53 - understated, underrated, yet exceedingly beautiful when you spend some time with it.. : )
ohmboyz - lfo morphing delays... so weak, but i fall for it every time... by far the best delay plug-ins created by human hands (so far)
ozone - hands-on mastering and finalising.... makes any tune sound wonderful once you get to grips with the quirky dynamics of its interface

bah... that's my 5, but i use a good few nore than that... : )
