Oh, I love her. This is still my favourite album and if I had to choose only one track, it would probably still be Earthquake, but it's not the most representative and they're all gorgeous in their own way. She was also wonderful live.

 
I've been enjoying some of the old ballads that have been floating around for centuries being reworked here and there. Mostly seems to be tales of death and seduction providing a thin veneer over class struggle. Sandy Denny and Pentangle did loads of these.



 


if the lyrics to Watering are about what i think they are about then they are even more dark than they initially sound
 
I was reminded of this in the shoutbox tonight, so reposting here because I'm not sure I ever did gush about it before, but probably should have. Awesome compilation. By coincidence, new Shirley actual is out this week.
