Hi - I'm looking for a good source of legal, high-quality (i.e. over 192kbps) MP3s for mixing purposes (I'm shortly getting Serato Scratch Live, so I can mix MP3s with my Technics decks) - so far the best place I've found for psytrance MP3s is: http://www.trackitdown.net/ or more specifically http://www.trackitdown.net/genre/psy_trance.html

Does anyone know of anywhere else? Thanks

beware playing MP3s out if you're a DJ who plays for crowds. i've played 192 rate files LOUD, and they sounded like shite to me. i play out using Traktor DJ now, and the only MP3s i play are files ripped at 320 (using Exact Audio Copy & lame with -api switch). i wanted to use WAVs initially, but my laptop drive is just too small to hold all the music i like. i have a ton of vinyl ripped to WAVs, so i can play acid techno sets or whatever if i copy them over to the laptop.

if you just play in the bedroom, then Soulseek is indeed a great way to audition and learn new tunes. try to get variable bitrate files, which are generally lame-encoded. Soulseek will show their bitrate as something weird like 207 or something.

of course, to address your REAL question, i don't think there are any good, legal sources for downloads. best to buy and rip.

yea be very careful playing mp3 on big rigs - you might not hear it at home but the bass frequencies can be practically lost completely and the whole thing can sound flat and tinny. vbrs are proably the best (other than 320s) as they give each part of the tune the bit rate it needs depending on how busy it is within certain limits (eg 192 - 256)

.wavs now - these are exact copies of the cd data and so completely uncompressed. and sounding perfect.

now, for a website that sells .wav files....
