so. I like playing around with hats and snares a lot. together with the kick and bline they make out most of the drive a tune has. now, I still can't quite figure out how to control the pitch of the single hits. if i create larger zones for each sample then i can just play them with keys but it gets tricky if i want to change anything later on (and you always want to change something later on). do you create one instrument for each element (snare, shakers, hats...) or do you just create zones or draw automation? this has been bugging me for a while because i just can't figure out how to get it to work how i want it to. anyway, if anyone has an idea it would be great to hear it :)

i'd use a drum sampler with a cell for every note. dr-008 or battery, you can then automate the pitch per sample

you can use multiple outputs from exs24 in logic and patch zones to different outputs and add plugins to theese outputs. I use it some times to control drums. :)

you could grab the drum machine SR202 off the front of Computer Music magazine. A free version of what JS suggessted above. not as good, but hey it's free. That way you can still control pitch. It has multiple outs for individual affects, decent filters.

Worth a look.

worth noting, when I was using it, I had a problem with retriggering kick drums, where there was a very heavy click at the end of each sample, if the samples overlapped each other. Ie, samples where the sub on the kick sudddenly got muted. I'm not convinced that there is an adequate solution to this problem, so I'd advise not using it for kick drums!

Or even better than that...
Until I got Kontakt recently I used a VSTi called DK1 - its a drum sample player and its fab :) It's got a LPF on every pad, which really helps for making things sit right, and three compressors on busses and each pad can be sent to any of the busses, 3 stereo outputs, mute groups, automatable, er... have a look at this piccy

Anyway it's no longer available so if anyone wants it, PM me.

Alt.

very similar in theory to dr-008

best thing about dr-008 though is the 'cells' can be a sampler or a drum synth, i rave about this plug in, but no-one elses seems to have noticed ;)

....i feel the same way about Linplug RMIV......

Much nicer than Battery too IMO
