They are bipedal humanoids with a carbon/oxygen metabolism; this much is clear. However our initial scans indicate that peer-pressure is very much a driving force behind their interactions. This is to be expected on a closed society such as this, with an implicit rather than an explicit heirarchy, and we should not forget that prior to the Human race's first contact with the Vulcans and their subsequent founding of the Federation of Planets with us, humans were similarly encumbered. For all that though, I have seen evidence that new members are usually welcomed, sometimes after undergoing an initiation ceremony which does not seem too onerous for any except the most persistent offenders (apparently known to this society as 'trolls', for some reason).

The Prime Directive forbids any contact that will change the course of their civilisation, but I feel that both the Federation and this as-yet-unnamed civilisation would benefit from an exchange of greetings and preliminary communication prior to exchanging ambassadors.

Live long, and prosper.
