Just got my first CDJ's

please excuse my ignorance, but i heard barclay mention beatmixing....
please tell me: wot other type of mixing is there? I mean, I use the beats to get the mix right......which means waiting for the first beat of Track 2 to match it up with the beats of track !.
But how else would u mix?

using intro's and fadeouts of tracks????

When i started mixing, i used the beatcounter alot, but i found that it was inaccurate- so i had no choice but to learn to do it by ear- and i promise that it is better, quicker and more effective.
I trust MY ears!!
hows that song go:::
''Let the beat control your body''

So how u getting on now Joe?

Did u learn to mix on vinyl first?

Hi peeps, thanks for all the info everyone, much more of a response than i thought!
How's it going Kurt, well i hope, before about a month ago i had never mixed in my life, had a few brief and failed attempts on turntables throughout the years but never anything thats really taught me much. After a good 4-5 years of my cd collection becoming immense, i realised i had'nt listened to loads of it in ages so thought that decks would let me do this... and they have!! My progress at the mo is good, had been relying solely on the bpm's on the cd inserts but after my housemate's (turntable purist) constant whinging i tried without, and surprised myself as i could do it! Obviously not perfectly but i'm definately getting there, when i started i thought i'd never be able to it...show's what i know.
Anyway, thats where i am at present, keep those tips coming and those that know me (you know who you are!) c ya soon!

P.S: Anyone 'ere goin to symbiosis, if so come say hello at my stall!!!! :P

Keep on at it, if you rely on BPM meters, you'll end up playing out with gear that has none and you'll be lost. Listen to the music - you'll find that most tunes have 8 bar phrases; coun't 'em: 1 2 3 4, 2 2 3 4, 3 2 3 4, 4 2 3 4 etc, bring in your new track when you get to the first beat of next phrase and it will feel much more natural. Which breed of cdj's are you using? :juggle:

Hard to believe but i've heard a few dj's who are so-called 'big names' doing nothing but waiting for whirly intros and outros and mixing them together - fooking shocking!! Surely the fundamental thing to learn when you're djing is beatmatching...

I don't like to practise but the best way to learn is to practise as much as you can and learn some tricks. You can also watch other dj's and check their skills out, everyone benefits from each other! :)
