Top 10 MMMMmetal!!!

Ahh takes me back a few years..

Pantera
Slayer
Megadeath
Metallica (yeah soft rock I know ;) )
Danzig
Ministry
Anthrax
Cannible Corpse (tho can't handle it any more)

.. and some of the stuff my goth mate Tara listens to.. not a clue what it's called!

Sadly no on has mentioned those true gods of metal, the very wondrous... Lawnmower Death!!

Slayer & Nuclear Assault were always good for a laugh (one of my dubious claims to fame was promoting Nuclear Assaults first Uk headline show). About the only trad rock band of recent times I thought were any good - ( though they are not really metal) are the Wildhearts - top band.

BTW when you go to European festivals you can just tell that most of the German crowd and acts used to be well into their metal! It may be psylobin shorts and cosmic market trader hip bags now - but I'm sure 10 yrs ago it was all cap sleeved scorpions t-shirts, brown leather trousers, mullets & 'tashes ...actually a fair amount of them still look like that!

:lolsign: :speaker: :lolsign: :speaker:

i.e. :Delta Force Comp with tracks like Vampires and Battle Juice where u just don't know whether it's meant to headbang or dance!!And the first track is EBM!
Once a metalhead always a metalherd! :punk:

The missus and I went to the Dynamo Festival a few years back - twas pretty cool..

Used to love Carcass and they would still be my faves - riff-0-rama!
Cathedral were cool too....

God...nuclear assault...that brings back memories - fight to be free!

Was that in '98?
I 've managed to go in '99 and it was great!
Unfortunately, there was no more...(they had it in '00 as well but it was a limp version of it, for one day only with very average line-up, so it doesn't count!)
They try to pull it back for next year, shall see!

er....was 99 I think!
Metallica headlined
who else played....ah yes

Overkill
Atari teenage Riot
Cradle of Shite

And loads more! Did you get stuck in the bus q on the way out? We were queing for about 3 hours, managed to smoke all of our weed and then missed our ferry in the evening....

Still, was an experience but the organisation of the festi was pants. Those food and drink coupons that seemed like a good deal at first then turned out to be mega expensive and the bus services were abysmal...

Cool that you were at the same one mate!

:partysmi:

Don't remember about Metallica but frankly don't seem to remember the headliners at all!! me memory sucks!!
Just remember the smaller groups doing it for me!

But I do remember Overkill giving a hell of a late show at the tent!!
So it has to be the same one!Nice!
Don't remember Cathedral though, think they played there in'98...

Cradle of...well I won't waste a word there.BAD,VERY BAD!(wasted 3 words & a comma!)

Remember watching Monster Magnet, the Gathering and Space Age Playboys before succumbing to the stoner stage for some Unida, Nebula etc
Good stuff+great fun!!

As for the bus queue, u can't expect me to forget that now, right? Problem: I had "no killing time equipment" and was staring with awe at this massive metalic bug-shaped structure all the time just to forget myself!! Didn't miss no ferry though, I was interailing at the time! B)

How about the toilet queue? The place had swamped (literally!) and that was no water!! Remember visiting the place at 5 am for my ehmm...fix cause otherwise access was denied for the non-patient!!

PS:Still got a coupon as I forgot I had it until way laters; a lost beer turned memorablia!

Wish they get back on their feet again for next year as it is the only metal fest I would like to visit:nice people, variety of soundz and no new metal!!

was staring with awe at this massive metalic bug-shaped structure

Yep - it was the same festi!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I think I would go back to - not really into the music these days but its a fun weekend, watching (some)really talented musicians...not like this knob twiddling, no brainer dance music crap ;) ;)

Unfortunately, we had so much of amsterdam's finest to cane it through I don't remember much, save for the mud around the loo's and the q at the end...

Oh yeah - Ministry played too!!!! Now that did fucking rock!!!!!

Ah the memories! :partysmi: :partysmi:

Hmmm...no soul in the machines now days!!
:hehe:  :hehe:

We 'll go next time!
Try to hijack the bug;no one will notice!
and then up for a knob twiddling,no brainer dance music festie to come full circle!!
:lolsign:

i only recently discovered metal (in the last year or two) so my top ten may be rather select and too 'nu' for the old skool heads. but i don't care :P

tool - possibly the greatest band in the world. lyrics are psychedelic as you like and alex grey doing artwork for them is just the icing on an already badass cake.
sikth - these kids are ridiculous musicians
superjoint ritual
dillinger escape plan
kyuss (even though i only have one album)
all of mike patton's stuff
soad
ratm (i reckon they're metal)
dry kill logic
a perfect circle

:juggle:

My girlfriend likes Kyuss - I like their songtitles - well groovy
And Tool are wicked - I saw them back in 1993 in Nottingham Rock City when they supported Rage Against the Machine....that was a fantastic gig and at the time, their only release was Opiate so they were quite small...

It was RATM's first UK gig too and I got crushed at the front! Awesome!

Kyuss are great! And the same goes for Tool, all releases are seminal!

Taking queue from superjoint ritual, check,f u like, and if u haven't already, Down. Especially the second album (aptly named, well... 2!) released last year. Anselmo is singing (he really does on that one!) and the band is an all-star mix of Crowbar, Corrosion of Conformity and Eyehategod members! A sludger's paradise!! :speaker:

totally agee, Tool are the best around at the moment, top musicians, great lyrics and maynards voice just gets me every time. First time i saw them was on that RATM tour at brixton...tripping....blew me away! seen them many times since and they never dissapointed me.
Kyuss are top too.

anyone listened to The Mars Volta, not exectly metal but is superb.

Funny though that i don't listen to too much metal any more since getting into psytrance, it doesn't seem as out there compared to psy

Aye, got their EP and thought it was great!
Nice cut man!
Don't know if they released anything after though!
BTW it's an ex-members band of At the Drive In for anyone that cares!

Don't know about quitting metal myself though; I mean psy and metal co-live in my brain and ears for the last 8 years so I don't see why this should cease to be now!
And 2morrow am thinking of going down the shops for the latest Entombed album!!
Not a summer listening but then again there is no cure here!! :punk:

Does anyone have Tool's DVD with the video clips? Me think its great, especially the live, audio only unfortunatelly, CD that comes along with the box!
Overtly priced though...

yes, saw queens of the stone age on saturday
man that is a cool band

rokk on tommy

Last bands we saw were Fishbone, Downset and Skindred in Nottingham late last year.
Fishbone kicked ass - god their bass player is wicked!

MY top ten would have to be...

Faith no more
Fear Factory
Godflesh
Carcass
Clutch
Pig Destroyer
Young Gods
Ministry
Pantera
The melvins

and thats cutting out alot of good bands!

we should have a psy-forum metal night out =)

My girlfriend used to play bass in a death metal band so I've sort of stayed with the scene which is cool because it still has its good points.

A psy metal night out would be fun though! :speaker: :speaker:
