Tom, look at what happened under Thatcher: she was blatently taking the piss, yet she won three terms in office, the second purely on the back of the Falklands conflict. Elections are won and lost by the grace of swing voters, who, it seems, are gluttons for punishment. But don't be too hard on Blair: Howard would do the same, and so, for all the appeal, would Kennedy.
 
yeah... they're all fuckers. But becoming a raging partisan is a good way to avoid writing essays.
 
As I suspected: behind every righteous rant there's an ulterior motive! ;)
