Nightmare on Ashton Gate Road

yup AMD boards are a bit of a bastard to install chips into.....lots of force + tip of a screwdriver = recipe for stabbing motherboards very hard.

ive been using www.tekheads.co.uk very good/cheaper than ebuyer

If you are still fiddling with the old MB, I'd disconnect the hard drives...

This may seem pointless, but you cannot be to careful with all that data right now. Imagine what a power spike could do to a damaged board. :( You really cannot be to carful about this!

I think colin has an external hard drive, on which everything is assured to be SAFE. I've got backups of most of the cod stuff anyway.

My audio data is on an internal drive, and given that I've already turned the machine on a number of times when trying different processors and jumpers, if anything was going to happen it'll have happened already. We'll see when I get the new mobo in there - which should be tomorrow, Royal Mail permitting.

Got the new motherboard, installed it, put the 3200 in...

...nada. Same no-beep boot, nothing on the screen.

Tried a different video card, all possible combinations of RAM stick, different FSB jumper settings... still nothing.
Replacing the old 2400 processor though works - even though it didn't on my original motherboard (which I think I broke). My guess is the 3200 is buggered, as well as the old mobo.

Oh well, it's only money..
