I believe that i have just installed service pack 2,

but im not sure if it actually did, puter asked me to reboot etc etc but i thought a sign would pop up saying 'service pack 2 now correctly installed'

you should have a new security centre icon in control panel.
Don't forget to turn off the windows firewall if you already have a firewall of your own installed

I'm touching myself as I write this post.
Right click on the "My Computer" icon and click properties - it tells you if it's service pack one or two in there.
