Ok. so i finally caved.

I'm going to build a PC and obviously it's going to have to be ultra dope

I've been searching around and i just dont seem to come across the kind of sleek, minimal stylings that i need in a case. i want a box that doesnt draw attention to itself; understated & elegant.
anyone know any good cases out there?

as for the components i'm open to suggestions - my only requirements are two video outs / very fast processor / minimum 2gig of RAM with good upgrade potential / fast HDDs

thoughts?
experiences?
online guides?

got the Antec Sonata II silent case. It goes a long to way to reducing fan noise which i think is crucial for critical listening. Not only does this allow for music making at low levels but also helps to cut back on symptoms of fatigue that occur from the constant whirr of the cpu fan.

Its a bit more expensive than your usual case and doesn't insulate the noise 100% but is definitely worth it.
Actually JPsychodelicacy built my machine and it works a treat, hopefully he'll be able to offer you his expert advice! :Smile3:

Look at cases by Antec and (if you can afford it) Lian Li.

Check out http://www.quietpc.com/uk/ for loads of nice stuff - its well worth getting an ultra quiet CPU fan and powersupply plus fanless graphics card cooler and chipset heatsink to cut down on the noise. Have got all of this stuff in my PC plus an Antec Sonata case and you can't even tell when its on :Smile3:

If you REALLY want the dopest PC ever then perhaps one of these would be in order: http://www.quietpc.com/uk/tnn.php :Smile3: a bargain at £800 :ilol:

Right now, I'd *highly* recommend until waiting after Xmas, as there's usually a price drop early in the New Year.

Cases are as cases do (I'm a fan of the Sonata), but as far as components go you should be able to pick yourself up a nice twin-core processor for not very much if you have a little patience - with a bit of luck, I'll be doing the same... :Smile3:

I can fully recommend QuietPC - I spent 300 quid there about a year and a half ago. Their cases come with acoustic absorbing kits that deaden the inside of the cases with two layers of heavy rubber and foam, with panels cut specifically for each type of case. I also bought a Zalman flower CPU cooler (which I was able to transfer to the new CPU with <ahem> only minimal problems :irolleyes ) and a fairly silent PSU with a 120mm fan on the inside, which draws hot air out from directly over the CPU. The cases don't look fancy by any stretch (mine's bog standard beige but it's also available in black) but they do the job. I would post a link but to be honest I can't be arsed right now and I'm sure you're as much a friend of Google as I am. :Smile3:
