I spose theres 2 ways of looking at that...

Its great coz its spreading the music to people who have never, and would never have listened to it etc etc...

or

The very start of commercialising the only music scene that the industry hasnt been able to touch...

Don't worry we've been here before. The fickle microscope of media focus will drift away onto something else. The attention span of a gnat.
If it gets some cool people on board, and helps the artists sell a few more tunes that can only be a good thing.

:)

yeh I wouldlnt worry ... jeff mills plays on fergies show a fair bit it seems and also strings of live got completely ripped for some commercial cover recently [shudder] but detroit techno hasn't gone mainstream and its not affected the scene at all [and i cant imagine it ever will] ... tho the wolrd might be a happier place if psy/techno etc were the main stream ? ;)

peace,

Not strictly true, radio 1 played a lot of psy-trance saturday evenings a few years back. Regular tracks from hallicinogen, mwnn, astral projection, dragonfly and co.
I think this did a lot of good for trance music by exposing it to a lot more people than otherwise would have heard it.

Agreed, psy-trance is not an easy listening for dummies, it will certainly attract only cool peeps who get the interest in fine music and the lifestyle, and that can only add to the vibe IMO :)

i think its all good, even if there was a commercial interest which is highly unlikely, not enough people will ever be interested to start a "trend", and if so the scene would split and factions would remain that sprung forth new deeper psy and less "commercial sounding music!! if psy trance is made to sound more appealing to the masses by certain artists (not pointing fingers) then they will trancend the scene, the scene will not convert to mainstream mentalities about music and parties, I mean some of the "commercial sounding " trance like some infected mushroom tunes isnt really trance anymore, "proper" psy trance just doesnt appeal to the masses! And If the parties ever become too cramped and aggression arises regularly, people who cant enjoy that atmosphere will just walk away and hundreds of new, exciting and intimate parties would spring up. Plenty of people already avoid some of the larger london parties, i definately steer clear of antiworld/psygate parties, my brain just cant take it. Im pretty sure commercialism can have little effect, especially in the long term so i for one am going to tune in and enjoy!! Support the music whilst it remains true to itself!!
