Out of interest how long had you guys been producing before you had anything picked up ?
...and did you just send demo's out to label a&r's when you thought you had stuff worthy of release ?
cheers peeps,

I released my track in 2002, so I reckon I can say I'd produced seriously for a couple of years. Started making music back in 1996 though, with Fast Tracker 2. Fooled around with that for a couple of years and made a shitload of tracks. Slowly progressed from happy hardcore thru rave, dnb and hard trance until I discovered goa trance in 1998.
I then realised that this was the type of music I wanted to do and got right to it. Made a couple of proper goa trance tracks but I soon crossed over to the more psy side of things. Early 1999 I sent out my first demo. I took the two tracks I considered the best and addressed them to Twisted and Flying Rhino.
Flying Rhino sent me an email a few weeks later saying "Thanks for your demo, but for now we have all the music we need" which is the polite way of saying the tracks sucked, I guess. However, I didn't give up and sent a few tracks to an American label called Starchild Recs. They were more positive and as they were in the process of compiling an upcoming compilation, they told me to send my stuff to the guy who was compiling it - Miki Litvak of Domestic/Shidapu
Sent him the tracks and he liked them, but he didn't think they'd fit that particular compilation. For the record, this compilation never got released, as Starchild went bankrupt shortly before it was supposed to come out. Still, I stayed in touch with Miki and kept sending him my tracks for him to review. We also made some tracks together, but none of them was released.
Then in 2001 he had released some tracks on Sphere Recs and told me I should send my tracks there with his recommendation. I did and they picked up the Levitation track (last track I did in the tracker environment). I was in heaven.
The track was released in May 2002 and I still remember the feeling when I was standing there with the CD in hand reading my own name in the booklet. Never made any money from it though. The early promise of an advance later turned into royalties which in turn turned into dust as they had overestimated their expected sale and spent too much money on the production and related things, and were unable to pay any of the artists.
I've uploaded two of the first goa/psytrance tracks I ever did if anyone wants to hear what they sound like... c'mon, you know you want to...
