RINKADINK - RABBIT FROM DARKSIDE - ( ALCHEMY RECOR

Just received this one from chaos unlimited and it's pretty cool :D

Yeah, I had been tossing up whether to get it or not, but Symbiois decided me :-)

Just wanted to add briefly that Cabbage al la Tetradink is bloody brilliant! Best track on there I reckon - unique sounds and a great beat. Some of it does sound a bit like one of those old Amiga demo program thingys, but that's ok cos they were pretty cool anyway!

It's so nice to hear some psy-trance which doesn't sound like everything else for a change

Not exactly sure what Paradice meant in his post, but by coincidence I got the new Spacetribe too... looking forward to hearing that one! And just to go completely off topic, how 'bout getting Ollie Wisdom along to a Symbiosis one of these days!! :D

yeah .. brill cd.. very enjoyable live .. i liked most of the tracks on the album .. loads of really nice breaks and twisty bits ... original in aspects and defenatly worth a listen

7/10

good album, my favourite recent one...the best track is soo totally turrican II tune from childhood, but i think that's purely cos i could listen to old school computer game music all day..!!!!

bit off topic but red zebra: spacetribe is ok, track 3 is ok and track 4, giants totally badass! but the dink has me on this one, a relief to not heard the usual arpeggiated melodies and usual pitch mod sounds, which i do like but its just nice to have somthing that is totally seperate to whats around right now.
And Please play at least 1 of these tracks at TOF on the weekend (to any dj that may play)!

I've been blown away by most of the Rinkadink material I've heard so far. The remix stuff he did with Deviant Species was effective and I thought here comes groovy trouble. The stuff Nano Records has released continued to live up to expectations and was cool, with Syntax & Whiskey - Whiplash, a collaboration, the one that stood out. Ultima, another collaboration was also a classic. The most recent Nano Records track is a good one aswell. What's been released with Alchemy so far has been great. Rabbit From Darkside as an album though is a bit better than a few tracks thrown together for an awaited cd, but only just a little more. I went out and bought it (I don't buy cd's much, I'm lucky) and I don't regret it because I was appreciating what had come before as much as what I thought I was buying, but I was a bit let down.

My overall impression of the first listen to the whole album was that it sounded sharp and clean and good, but it was a bit bitty and a little hit and miss in the odd zone. As a mix CD of sorts it's a fullsome experiment if anything cool and a good sound for doing a lot right, but the flow isn't consistent. Each track is clevercool in it's own right, so it has to be seen as a good debut album overall. Here's my flippant take on each track

1 = Anyone Seen Bender = well worked intro so interesting for the cd too - good space, Cranky, interesting avenues, fun but already the bits n pieces start flying, drops straight into...
2 = Pacific Producers = my favourite track, a collaborative work with Modular Mike that stands out, nice and slushy in parts, with a bit of squelch to relish...
3 = Hope Was Closed = just didn't seem to make an impression at all (have to listen to it again??)...
4 = Cabbage Al La Tetradink = a bit like 'Bender', cranky, twixted (I mean twixted), clever and fairly entertaining...
5 = Syntax & Whiskey = is, well, excellent as usual! love it. Definitely the biggest track on the cd. Excellent stuff...
6 = Charlie Cat V.4 = getting comical again. I can almost see Charlie Cat wizzing up and down the washing line and if I was Charlie I'd be thinking myself unfortunate for being turned into a gimmick by the wizard....
7 = Tune From Childhood = Sweet. It starts off greeaAAT! Then it turns into something, sweet?...
8 = Stampede = almost, but not really. More a collective run, and then another run. Good brisk run though!...
9 = Power Spooge = nice drive, easy pace and warm on the ears, good groove, odd peculiarities highlight poignant moments.

All round a funky breath of fresh air, but I'll be waiting to see how many remixes we get and what the second album sounds like before I settle into Rinkadink mania

My feelings exactly!

Different, mixing old & new and that speaks volumes!

In a word; cracking! :speaker:

After everyone raving about this for time, I dug some extra cash out and bought it and I'm not that impressed... I'm not saying it's rubbish far from it... It is well made, but with the exceptance of a couple of tunes (Cabbage De La Tetradink is great, Anyone Seen Bender Original and Odd in a good way, Tune From Childhood actually works OK) it just sounds like a big collection of basslines patched up by breaks with no real big picture to hold the tunes together. Sometimes he switches bassline mid tune and it just doesn't go. It's a good psy album but loads of people have said it's their big fav album... I can think of loads of artist albums I prefer to listen to. (Sirius Issness Of Late which is amazing for working (non cheesy) melodies into hard edged tunes, Protoculture, Psypilot, Tikal, loadz.....) I dunno just not enuff trance for me I suppose?! the hard edge could be effective at a party. but it aint my 1 for home listens...
