shame that the only honorable mp to grace tony blairs government has died.

just for the record he was foreign secretary before becoming leader of the house of commons, it was from this post he resigned over the governments commitment to the invasion of iraq

He would have made a much better PM than Blair, except he's not as photogenic. That said, I can't say I liked him much, but at least he stuck to his principles.

I'm truly gutted by this news. We've lost the one true heavyweight in the Labour party with a grain of sense and integrity - except in Robin Cook's case it was more like a bloody great container ship full of grains.

What's more he was a brilliant anti war, anti Blair's war on terror, advocate. What's going to happen in the Labour parliamentary party now that's he's gone? Who's going to take up the cudgels? Claire Short? I don't think so...

A major moderating influence has gone, and we're all much the poorer for it. Dammit, it's a bad day for us all.

Hugs,

Barclay

(P.S. And if this isn't bad enough, Mo Mowlem's very seriously ill - cancer of the brain. :-( )

One of the few socialist labour MP's. With a conscience and the gutts to stand up to the party whips! A real shame!!

Well, I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but of the original "gang of 4" (John Smith, Gordon Brown, Robin Cook and Donald Dewar), only one is left.

And I've still got a very heavy heart...

Hugs,

Barclay
