" it's all about the "star within us" track for me, and the one that has the muffled vocal loop..."
yeah "The Stars Within Us" is pretty massive. the twisty acid sound during the build is...hmm....
the other part of the album i worship is the way tracks 1 & 2 flow together. i generally don't like out-of-context samples, but the one at the start of track 1 is poetic and trippy enough to work. this track also has THE trancey synth that i associate with Son Kite. once track 1 winds down, we get teased by that minimal kickdrum for a bit, then track 2's fucking fat bass drops. that drop is another of those aural orgasm moments i sometimes get from prog. the only weak track for the me is the title track, as it's all just too "epic" or whatever. they disappear up their own backsides a bit on that one.
i second the Kooler recommendation, and i sometimes think it's better than Colours. it's even closer to house than Colours, so be prepared. there are definitely some stompers included.
i actually find prog psy a bit similar to techno in that it can be amazing on the dancefloor, and a proper album can be great at home, but you don't really remember the majority of the tunes until you hear them again. it's mostly about those endless incremental changes, and how they affect the dancefloor.
if you're looking for more of the memorable stuff, check out:
-Blowfish - Puffed Up
-Atmos - (his last two albums)
-Ticon - Aero
-Shaman - Foretaste (this one is pretty minimal in parts)
-Etnoscope - Drums From The Dawn Of Time (very tribal and good)
-LSG - The Hive (technically a different scene, but mixes very well, and is deeeep. this is also one of the "mixed albums" that came before Colours, and it's done exceedingly well)
-Vibrasphere - (i think they have two albums out, both good)
waffle off...
