I fancy wandering around some interesting sounding places and making some location recordings. I'd like to record in stereo, so I need to buy a stereo mic which I can use with my mp3 recorder (it will record full quality wav files, not just MP3)
Anyway i've just had a quick look on turnkey and the stereo mics go from about £30 to over £5000!!

What do I need?

This is the one I have:

I wouldn't mention it otherwise ;) You should hear the recording I made while standing on New Delhi railway station :D

Check the soundman in-ears.. quite possibly the most fun you can have with microphones [...well amost ;)]

They look like earphones so u can walk around location with an md/mp3juke etc in your pocket and record completely inconspicuously :) Recently spent two days recording wandering in and out of various buildings and other random places around edinburgh ... fantastic when you get get stopped by charity collecting monks in the street whilst recording who ask you to sing 'gouranga' with them [score !!! :) ].

They are also binaural - they record from the position your ears are in you get a fantastic reproduction of the stereo field ... listebning back to some recordings walkng home I coulnt tell if there was actually traffic coming up from behind me or if it was the recording :/

I also had some fun taking a pair of these out post-clubbing one weeeknd and on the walk home started recording random banter with chavs :D

No problem boss !

Ive been using just an old sony minidisk recorder which does the job just fine but if you wanna splash out on summit nifty then the iRiver mp3 jukeboxes are top notch. The only other jukes that record other than iRiver are the Archos ones AFAIK - cd potentially pick up one of the older badboys on ebay for a reasonable amount nowadays ? I guess it depends on budget vs. audio anality (is that a word?) .. if ur feeling really cashed u cd pick up a Fostex FR-2 solid state field recorder for a cheeky grand ;)

peace,
m
