Can anyone suggest a nice vst trance gate, im using a free mgtrigger at the moment but it doesnt have enough steps to make stuff real cool, and keeps malfunctioning now and then..

Looking for something with 100+ steps for big long twisting acid lines, saw the camelspace ting, but costs....

Many thanks for your Limitless Wisdom!

For such a long line you would be best using a MIDI triggered gate - I dont think many (if any) VST step sequencers have such long patterns. I think there is a free MIDI gate on the smartelectonix website somewhere (along with a load of other very cool free plugins).

then try this...

Try setting up an ES1 [or any other synth] with a single osc sound [sine wave is good] with max sustain and fast attack/release
the pattern you play with this synth is going to be the trigger for the gate, play quite high in the scale as it tends to have more definition than the low notes

send the signal. (via the output not the send) to one of the busses and then setting a logic noise gate on the synth you want to gate and set the sidechain to the buss you sent the signal to .

now, when you play notes on the es1 it will open the noise gate

Don't forget to route the buss channel to "no output" and make sure the fader is up.

Works a treat.

Sounds a bit convoluted to achieve such a simple effect - may as well use a purpose built plugin and save a few CPU cycles!

its all logic native and uses minimal cpu
