The heavy music thread: punk, metal, stoner et etc

Wacken 2023 are live streaming their Harder Faster stage. Starting in a few hours (14.55 German Time). Lots and lots of bands playing of the weekend including but not limited to: Iron Maiden, megadeth, Dropkick Murphys, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Anthrax, penny wise, beartooth, Uriah Heep, while she sleeps, alestorm, Kreator

re-recordings of the first three sepultura albums are a thing apparently. Listening to Schizophrenia at the mo....sounds great (in an early sepultura kinda way, obvs)

yeh, not ever really been a huge FF follower but enjoyed that set. Seemed to be getting a fair bit of appreciation in the comments from FF fans
He's not bad at all, surprised that people are being so warm though, Max left Sepultura more than 20 years ago now and they still are giving grief to the "new" (?!) guy.

Apropos of nothing, i watch a lot of drum vids n tha on youtube, and it been brought to my attention that tonnes of metal drummers use triggers on their snares and kick drums. Even matey from slipknot (the one who died) who got voted, somehow, the greatest drummer ever, used triggers - and even when playing live.

i never really knew how prevalent they were in metal til i started researching the genre last year. An obvious advantage would be for drummers who are on tour and playing every night, and whose drum parts are based around just being flat out fast as possible. The triggers would stop them destroying their limbs on tour.

I suppose metal has become an arms race, literally, in that who can play the fastest blast beats possible. The problem ive seen highlighted in a few videos is that people are using them on the sly whilst claiming to be playing certain drum patterns naturally. So i suppose it comes down to authenticity. If someone is truthful about their usage of triggers then its no problem at all.

Edit - Probs not for this thread, but I love Stewart Copelands drumming . Back when I had functional wrists i tried and failed to work out parts of 'walking on the moon' by the police, which has tidy drumming on it. Lots of the track was doable, but it turns out he had some weird drumpad triggers on other parts. Took me a good while of just thinking the guy was extraterrestrial before I was told the truth. So I gave up trying to learn those bits
