I saw this in the paper today and thought it summed certain things up pretty well for me:

Al Kennedy said:
OK, I'm paranoid and depressed. My new government of troglodytes, murderers and spivs barely elongates the customary scream I give upon waking. What troubles me more is our rulers' inevitable recommencement of the war on terror bollocks.

To begin at what we're told is the beginning, we have 9/11 - the one in the US, not the earlier one in Chile when covert US government intervention killed thousands of innocents and handed the country to a commerce-friendly, torture-loving, far-right junta. Now if 9/11/2001 is so important, why is it so hard to find out what happened?

The FBI, as we know, blocked all manner of investigations into the plot in the run up to its execution, whether these involved highly specific warnings from its own agents or from government sources in Afghanistan, Argentina, Britain, the Cayman Islands, Egypt, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Morocco and Russia.

Meanwhile, I worry why the nearest military aircraft weren't scrambled to intercept any of the hijacked flights when this is standard procedure and why, when more distant jets were finally aloft, they flew at less than half speed, thus failing to prevent the impacts at the twin towers and then, it would seem, managing to shoot down Flight 93 when its passengers may already have overcome its hijackers.

It would, of course, be easier to know what happened to Flight 93 if there weren't - according to educated estimates - three minutes of the cockpit recording missing. It would, equally, be handy to have access to the black boxes from the other crashes. Firefighters at Ground Zero have repeatedly stated that three of the four possible black boxes there were found and taken away by government agents.

And these worries are maybe less important than the ones about clear links between the Pakistani ISI, the CIA and the men named as the 9/11 hijackers. Or the mysterious inability of anyone to capture Osama bin Laden, who fled from Tora Bora, possibly being evacuated by helicopter, and then escaped to Pakistan unhindered.

So while Chinese paperclips are now made out of vital 9/11 evidence and almost every implicated party goes free, we and our controlling US interests continue fearlessly to terrorise countries unconnected with the attacks, to place permanent military bases near oil reserves and pipeline routes, to harass and murder Muslims anywhere we can, and to foment terrorist resistance at every opportunity. The UK unmasks non-existent ricin plots and threatens us with ID cards, but we can't supply our troops in Iraq with working radios or a legal causus belli.

But you'd never want to think that on 9/11/2001 covert US government intervention killed thousands of innocents and handed the country, if not the world, to a commerce-friendly, torture-loving, far-right junta. That would make you a paranoid, depressed conspiracy theorist. And, take it from me, that just wouldn't be comfortable.

yeah why not, its not like anything will make any difference,

right?

Let's have a protest March up to Hyde park.
That'll make the politicians sit up and take notice.

:lolololo: I was gonna say that!

yes but i meant it ironically in furtherance to Otts comment -you were probably going to say it seriously :p

but great minds eh ;)

You mean you weren't being serious!? :p

Great minds think alike ... and small things amuse small minds ...

Given that, as Yodhe said, the fundamental means of control used is fear, I reckon the best thing we can do is to not live our lives in fear! Use the knowledge that an unknown but possibly very large proportion (I assume 90%, just for the sake of argument) of everything we're told about the world at large is either a fabrication or spun for maximum negative impact - and ignore the lot of it. Live your life the way YOU want to, not the way you think you 'should'. And, if you can, give others around you a little nudge in the same direction when appropriate.

Great advice.

If I may add one and paraphrase The Dude;

"Don't work too hard, unless its for something groovy..."

ok lets think about what this means then. Links between the CIA and shady maybe AlQaeda groups, evidence witheld or claimed lost, planes flying at half speed (this 1 sounds a little sketchy) investigations hindered or stonewalled.

So the logical conclusion from that is (assuming its true) that the American govt/military/CIA set up 9/11, for their own gain.

If that is true, then we have entered a new era of political deviance, brainwashing, and manipulation. Even the Nazis were pretty clear about what they wanted, and they are cursed as one of the most disgusting regimes ever to have risen. This is about a thousand times worse than that, in fact, its almost completely unbelievable. I am sceptical that anyone could be capable of such a cold calculating idea, but if this is true, we need to do a lot more than turn off the TV.

Or have I been watching to much??

Do you believe that John F Kennedy was assassinated by a lone gunman from a book depository window?

Overwhelming evidence suggests not, yet curiously most people you ask will answer "yes" to that question. They are willing to deny all the evidence of their senses and powers of deduction rather than face the awful prospect that their Government are crooks. Denial is a powerful thing, especially if it reinforced by every branch of media and government.

The fact that people willing to question the official explanation of these events [JFK, 911, Oklahoma etc...] are very much in the minority makes them easy to write off as conspiracy nuts. JFK was murdered 42 years ago and, despite the compelling evidence of the Zapruder film, still most people accept the "lone nut" theory.

People have a tendency to believe what they read in newspapers and hear on TV and radio. To the majority, Tony Blair and George W Bush represent pseudo parental figures - entrusted with the task of looking after them and keeping them safe from harm. Accepting the idea that "Daddy" is a lying, murderous bastard is an extremely bitter pill for most to swallow, and most will remain in denial for as long as it takes.

The best we can do is to try, in as calm and rational way as possible, to encourage those around us to question what they are being told.

Ranting and hectoring is counter-productive. Swallowing and regurgitating any crackpot theory offered to you does actually make you a "conspiracy nut" - be discriminating in what you believe.

No matter HOW compelling your argument, one mention of David Icke and you're sunk.

Accept nothing without well-researched evidence. Allow your instinct and intuition to lead you.

Most of all, read [and/or re-read] George Orwell's 1984.

So do you believe it?

I'm sitting on the fence at the moment, but this isnt the first time all this has been raised. Even popcorn proganda film Farenheit 9/11 touched on this, but obviously without hard evidence (and the potential backlash from a hyped up patriotic America) you could almost see Moores lawyers editing this subject down to the merest hint.

However, I'm not dissmissing the idea either. I'm appalled at even the concept, but I've seen some pretty underhand things the Americans have done before to get where they are today, but would they do those things to their own, on a scale never seen before?

To come back to JFK I could certainly believe certain Americans killed their own president as he ruined/cancelled whatever they were up to, but I'm not convinced that they'd murder 2700 financial workers for money and oil.

What are 2700 when 500,000 chiklren alone have died in Iraq in the past decade or more - and for reasons which can be traced to much the same sources?

Unfortunately, the way things work across the Atlantic, 2700 NY commodity traders, investment bankers and stockbrokers are much more valuable than half a million third world children, especially if those happen to be Muslim.

No, I stand with Drat Mafia on this one.
