Oh you lucky Sod! Have a good wiggle on the 9bar for me.
Absolutely the cheapest way to goa is charter from Gatwick direct to Goa: www.goaway.co.uk - thats if youre not Indian, who are not allowed on those flights unless with a foreign husband/wife-
    discrimination!
Else, fly to Bombay: Gulf air is cheap and good, Alitalia same, Aeroflot over Moscow is the longest, most dangerous way to Bombay - but usually the cheapest!
Also, if youre really digging deep and have your money in Euros , its worth trying 'High-fly' in Hamburg, Germany - a brilliant travel agent specialising in India. www.high-fly.de

    B) Have a good trip!

:Smile3: I havent been to Goa in 2 years now, the main places to stay used to be:
    Anjuna - the trance epicentre
Calangute - the touristic resort commercial place  (maybe rent your bike here - essential)
Arambol - the out-of-the-way paradise hippy place
Palolem - South Goa, beautiful, cheap, different
I'd stay for 2 weeks at least, its nice to arrive in Goa, acclimatise & party, then go travelling, cos the rest of India is very different! Enlightenment calls...
Goa is twice as expensive as the rest of India, most products carry 2 prices; one for india and one for Goa & Bombay! Travellers Cheques are probably a good idea...

    Nice places to check out:
    Paradiso - partyplace
Ninebar - Vagator beach sunset DJ bar
Shorebar - Anjuna market after party
    Anjuna Market - Wednesdays, essential!
    Orgazmic -organic restaurant
Primrose - night time bar/party contacts/ carrom games
    Bamboo Forest - Partyplace
German Bakery- good food /party contacts

For finding a place to stay, arrive in Goa early in the day, hire a bike and go on the search - theres guesthouses everywhere! The thing I love about Goa is the always the adventure, you feel alive!
Enuff for now, Im so jealous. Keep us posted on the party situation, I wonder if Goa has changed as much as people make it out. Bholenath!

    Couple of tips:
If you are gonna be there around new years, ud better find something nice to do other than go to a party as it will be packed with crazy people out to get fucked on NYE. The week or two after NYE is usually a great time to party as most of the tourists will be gone and only the trancers remain. Also, the amount of money you will need depends on what kinds of living conditions u want. If its nothing fancy, but still something comfortable, Id suggest you put aside about $1,000 (probably even less...not sure how expensive Goa is now as I was there a couple of years ago) per month. To give u a general idea - I was in India over summer for two months and spent a total of about 800$ which included all my travels (busses, trains, autos etc etc), food, stay (spent a couple of weeks living with my friends around the country so didn't really spend toooo much on that), smokes (tobacco and cream)...u get the idea...the general stuff. But u gotta be careful cuz ppl will be out to rip you off...and REALLY practice your barganing skills BEFORE you get there!
Also, you should check out the travle section on www.psynews.org as they have some great topics about "goa info" etc.
    Enjoy your trip!!! :punk:

im going and im planning on doing social work (teaching computer skills, clothes making, teaching english etc) and im pretty sure i get free food and accomodation. im going to stay with the Jesuits in Goa.. they are monks who are on a doing good mission in Goa and if you write to them or whatever you could probably do it, if you were willing to help the locals a bit and put some good back into the place which will make you feel so much more satisfied and make it so much cheaper. anyway if your interested, go on a search engine and look up Jesuit Goa Asha Deep Outreach Programme and sommat might come up. :jump:

    Hey people,

I too am wanting to go to Goa - probably next year - but I thought I'd find a few things out. Thanks for the info. so far.

One question - Gandu, you talk about going to Goa around New Years Eve - what's the best time to go? I was thinking of going in July/August time but is that not a good idea?

As I was living in Turkey I will recommend you a much better way to go to Goa. Why are you flying there?? Start your journey from Istanbul. Wander around sultanahmet, which used to be the meeting point for freaks in 60s and still is. There are a thousand things to see here and when you re fed up you take a train from Istanbul it goes till Tehran/Iran which just before it leaves Turkey goes over a lake on a boat. Dont waste your time in Tehran go to Isfahan and you ll be amazed in places you see and people you meet. Then head for Pakistan on a couch for Quetta/Pakistan look around for a day or two and go to Lahore where you should stay in Lahore Internet Regale Inn. I know it sounds cheesy but youll meet the owner there of the guesthouse who knows a lot of people around. He ll take you to meet Sufi s. You can go to Sufi festivals where you can hear the 140bpm in acoustic drums and hear trance music of 1000 years. The owner of the place is Malik. Then on a couch you ll go to the border of India. Very interesting border!! and you pass to Amritsar. Now you re in India, go directly to Goa, or go to Varanasi, Hampi you can find a lot of trains and coaches. I believe you d see a lot more and it will be an incredibly cheap journey. You can start your journey right after christmas only Turkey will be cold.

    Peace Love and Good Fortune

    When?
If you are up for parties, you need to avoid Feb. There are no parties due to school exam. In March, it will be boiling hot and a lot of water shortage problem.( Of course it is depend what kind of accomodation you are staying)

    Where?
If you have never been there, you should try Anjuna area first, then find out where you like. Anjuna, Vagator and Chapora are good place for enjoying full-on GOA scene. Once you are out of these area, it will be very quiet.

My favorite hide away beach is Asvem beach. You barely find other tourist staying there.

If you have 1000USD for a month, you can feel like posh.

    Where to eat
    Basilico (Italian)
    Le Blue Bird (French)
    Salt'n pepper (steak)
Al cove (next to 9 bar) (Indian)-best chic masara I have ever eaten
Crab Key (Goan food)-fish curry is very good
    Paradise/Chinatown(chinese)
Zoori's (Isreali) - expensive, but good food with good view
Mango shade/scarlet (snack/fruits shake) bring empty pet bottle for take away

Wow, I cannot stop writing restaurants' names. I have been there 7 times and always put weights, because of these....

    Maybe see you there.
