Finally decided today that the course I have applied for at Uni is not for me. Im intrested in doig something that involves media production and the likes that will hopefully give me a few skills in Music Production. Or other skills that would be useful for setting up parties etc.

Anyone got any ideas on the types of courses that would be good?

thnx

i went to the rose bruford college to study a degree in Music Technology. TThen the site was in Deptford, SE London but now its all moved to the main campus in Sidcup, Kent which is about 20-30 mins. train ride to London Bridge.
they also do a course in Sound and Image Design which not only covers many of the modules in Music Tech but is more geared towards things like website design, film production, animation, DVD, digital arts etc....
the course was really fun but is not that reputable compared to other more 'senior' institutions.
But although that the course didnt have the best reputation, (you dont need that many credits to get in) at the time it was the only uni offering degree courses in Music Tech. in London. and for jobs in Media and Music industries London is where most things are happening.

i used to study computer science at essex university, took me til half way through the second year to realise what a load of bollocks it was. i promptly quit and am now at hertfordshire uni studying music technology. in my first year at the moment learning studio technology, sampling, acoustics and signals, music production / audio systems and applications amongst other things :) they have a very good music department and also offer courses like music composition and technology, which obviously goes into more depth with stuff like notation etc. you do need at least grade 5 music theory to go into a course like this, although sometimes there are exceptions, i have no music theory qualifications but was accepted onto a course which wanted grade 6 based on my audio portfolio. so you could try something like that - just depends what you want to do :) hope you find something that suits you :hehe:

nik, that sounds cool, but:

i'm interested in doing a 'Sound and Image Design' type course to go on top of my audio engineering course, i'd like to get into some kind of mad graphics/animation/music crossbreed area, but hopefully on a more 'recognised' course (i need to gets some recognisable qualifications, all mine are random niches) anyone know anything?

the Sound and Image Design at Rose Bruford is a degree qualification so you will leave with a B.A. Baracus.

i reckon tho that theres def. more degrees available in London for this kind of stuff now than there was four years ago when i started.

Heard of 'sonic arts' courses, man thats weird shit. Kind of like a degree in smashing pianos....

Think Im gonna go get some lessons and get Grade 5/6 theory first. Looks like lots of places require that. Hmm muchos thinking and planning to do now.
