I don't know if this is the right place to ask the question but here goes anyway. My son's laptop is missing the high speed USB driver so it runs USB 2.0 devices under 1.0. I don't know where to look for the driver - Intel or Micros$oft website.

USB 1.1 & USB 2.0 hardware is different.

you can't upgrade USB 1.1 ports to USB 2.0.

but a USB 2.0 port is backwards compatible with USB 1.1.

USB 1.1 = 12Mbit/second.
USB 2.0 = 480Mbit/second.

The port is actually electrically the same, otherwise it wouldnt be backwards compatible :) USB 1 host controllers are implemented mainly in SW(the host controller is the bit which handles transactions from the pc), but a USB 2 has it done it hardware, hence why you can't upgrade it :)

Thanks for the replies but unfortunately my question wasn't clear. I'm looking for the driver for high speed usb. Actually I've found out that it is to be found on the Windows XP SP1 update but the whole thing is cab files and I don't know how to search through them. Any ideas?
