Just interested - I don't really make psy-trance cos I have an unhealthy obsession with dub and breakbeats. My stuff is definately influenced by the psy scene tho...

I make all types of music, the only similar theme being that its alll very bad.....

ask me this once a week and i would give you a different spiel each week about where my priorities lay

this week... i am mostly trying to perfect that particular blend of influences and styles which come forth in "hipnotic" tracks, a personal blend which has been brewing slowly in the background since i started producing. it falls into 2 main categories...

the first is loosely psy-chill.... its heavily informed by that scene, at least.

this i would describe as mostly a mix of ambient - downtempo - breakbeat - dub - gospel. key features are that it is organic - spiritual - nodding - and generally suitable for getting stoned to. roughly speaking, i'm aiming to make something a bit like a collab between solar fields, ott, the cinematic orchestra, and sly and the family stone.

the second is vaguely ambient dnb. key features here are a sense of spaceflight : incorporating a sci-fi / futuristic aesthetic, and a sense of floating spaciousness combined with a sense of high speed motion. aims to be vaguely like a mix of the future engineers, omni trio, blame, goldie, and fourier wave device.

the "soliptic" goa/psy stuff is pretty much on the back burner atm... altho i'll inevitably knock the odd one out every now and then. same goes for heavier techsteppy dnb... i'm no good at it, but i make at least a couple a year, just cos i want to / have to.

Whatever I feel like at the time, I guess... I do write a lot of trance at the moment because it never fails to cheer me up, even if it's a dark one.

But I get the feeling that given how new I am to this whole sequencer/production stuff, it's all acid-inspired kindergarten scrawl compared to the stuff I'm hearing out.

My stuff that I am working on is mainly influenced by late 70's and early 80's techno-punk-rock, with a little bit of phrygian jazz thrown in here and there.

D'ya know what I'm saying?

this sounds a bit like what I'm trying to achieve. but I'm going for more of a proggy breaks feel. Beats are influenced by Layo & Bushwacka!, Terminalhead etc... fairly up-tempo like 130bpm, with a spacey, uplifting organic/digital vibe and some dub influences.... :)

the stuff we are writing at the moment is sort of progressive trance going on progressive house.. fairly slow (eg 132 bpm) and most emphasis on the percussion and a smooth feel.. but ones style evolves over time.. i remember two years ago we were trying to sound like skazi hehe :)

I seem to have slowed down quite a bit during the years. 5-6 years ago it was all banging and rather stupid psytrance at around 146 bpm. Nowadays I've been mooching around in the 80-100 bpm area of downtempo/dub/experimental, with one exception being a raw and dirty psytrance thing at 132 bpm. Some more psytrance-ish stuff in the 142+ bpm zone has been in the making, but won't probably ever be finished...

yup same here, mainly proggy trance/verging on house, bout 130bpm. A nice tempo to work at, quite chilled but you can dance to it. Anyone who likes making music like this should listen to to the Kooler track Freefall on Kamaflage Vol 3. S by one half of Son KIte and is so disgustingly well made I'm going to have to listen to it again right now :)

I like just about everything.....

It's the way you smudge it together that counts :P

Full on psy..... with a lickle bit of Atomic Kitten..... mixed in.. ... followed byProdigy ..... yeeeeeeehay....

once my legs start moving they don't stop........... more .... More .... MORE

fankyou

cHoppA :P

when i start to write a tune i never know what its gonna turn into, but for some reason it always ends up being either full on psy trance, or psy chill. i just dont know how to write anything else. i cant wait till it all starts to actually sound good.

Wouldn't jazz all in one mode get boring after a while?

Ambient/Chill... and quite poorly I might add. I just like to make the type of music I would like to listen to.

I personally can't stand full-on for the most part anymore. Maybe to dance to at a party but not to listen to, which is what I'm more interested in.
