Women singing not folk

I like the cut of her jib - she has gone on the list, thanks.

And sorrynotsorry, but I have decided this thread needs some Yolandi spittin fokkin lyrics like BAM BAM BAM! (I love this track beyond all reason.)

Somewhat more high brow for balance, Holly.

In 2006 at the Wales Millennium Center in Cardiff Bay, over a thousand Jones’s gathered to set a new Guinness world record, for the largest surname gathering ever.

The attempt was a success, with 1,224 Joneses, beating the previous record held by 583 people called Norberg in Sweden.

The finale of the event was a show stopping performance by Grace Jones.

What can you say about Siouxsie Sioux that hasn’t already been said. Queen of the punks, high priestess of goth and other well worn cliches, that she herself is personally not fond of.

Here she is pioneering Electro Swing, singing with a Welsh male voice choir and um... running through some woods.

The first time I heard this tune out, was at the Megadog pre-eclipse festival in 1997. I had been out all night partying and came back to the campsite to find a soundsystem still playing. Silhouetted by the rising sun, half a dozen dreadlocked dancers, a bus, a tipi and a smouldering fire pit, I danced with my Mum & Dad. It was one of those perfect moments. To this day every time I hear this tune, I close my eyes and stop whatever I am doing.

Debbie Harry’s biggest regret, is turning down the role of Pris in Blade Runner. Debbie was the first choice to play the part in the sci-fi classic, but her record label wanted her to work on her solo career.

Debbie said, “My record company didn’t want me to take time out to do a movie. I shouldn’t have listened to them.” Daryl Hannah got the role and Debbie has regretted it ever since.

Me too Debbie.

I like Daryl in the role very much, but agree Debbie would have been pretty cool too. My dad had such a crush on her, so I still nurse quite the soft spot myself.

He also had a crush on this lady. I'd post the obvious, because technically they're 'better' tracks, but this was my favourite growing up. We had the live concert version on video during which Summer's young daughter Mimi joins her on stage for the finale and sings the first verse, which I thought was, like, so inspiring. At the time, I didn't know was a cover (of Jon and Vangelis).

Of all his musical crushes, Crystal is the one that everybody liked (by which I mean, my sisters too - they were not so fussed about Debbie and Donna). Hers is still my go to version of Cry Me A River.

And he thought Joan Baez had the purest, most perfect female voice, but of course she's folk, therefore disqualified from your fine thread.

One of my happiest childhood memories is, Blondie coming on Top Of The Pops, my parents jumping up off the sofa and dancing wildly around the living room. I was too young too understand what was going on but I knew I wanted in.

Don’t tempt me.
