my fault. thought you meant they were being sold!
anyway, i've seen lots of good offers for cd's in the past couple of years; i get tempted by them but i don;t like being surrounded by loads of clutter. i've managed to sort out all the other clutter in my life and now the last thing is my cd collection. i'm thinking of digitizing my collection but not quite sure the best road to go down.
at the moment i've got an imac in my living room which i can control with a remote controller running apple's 'front row' although i haven't ripped my whole collection to it yet. it's a good way of listening to music as you also have the option of streaming internet music and tv but i would really prefer a smaller interface as having a computer on just to play music is quite an electricity hog and also means that your more 'plugged in' to the net all the time. sony do a jukebox system but i seem to remember the storage capacity being quite low (seeing as i would really rather rip either at WAV or ALAC sort of rates). naim are doing a decent looking media player but i rather think naim is going to be expensive. sonos have a palm held tablet that interfaces with a player which then references your collection which i think sits on an external hard drive. that's quite cool but i think it means that your router has to be network assisted (NAS drive) and mine isn;t. so i would have to buy a hard drive (plus one backup), a new router and a sonos system to get it up and running. but that has the benefit of then being available in every room of your house (if you buy multiple tablets). big expense that.
anyone got any thoughts or recommendations on hi-fi gear in this respect or indeed any general thoughts on how to set up a decent digitised modern music system?
....at the risk of throwing this thread off course.
