... has to be dark/forest psytrance with live drumming with heavy doses of drum fills.

Trust me, it will work. :)

Juno Reactors evil twin then ;P

I've found dark psy to be pretty 'hard'. Forest psy is not typicaly as 'hard' as as dark psy - a bit more introverted in character, although many of the production techniques are similar. This is pretty objective, I know, but thats how it feels to me as a layman.

Night psy I've found to be pretty dark (darker than much dark psy, oddly enough) - forest psy again does not have to be dark IMO, although it very typically is ... I think it is perfectly possible to make more blissed out tones with this style - just no-one has.

Again, my own personal estimation is that dark psy has quite a lot in common with more ominous hard dance forms - at least as much as it does to do with psy ... night psy sounds more like psy-trance than any other genre, but IMO is missing a few gears to really sustain my interest. Forest psy has probably the gayest name ever ... but is where I'd consider the future to be as literally anything goes, and its very clearly (to my mind) based on the psy-trance sound.

Very much just my personal take on it - I'm not looking to have a genre war - if someone doesn't agree with my take, great, have a banana. Love to hear about it, not that interested in sorting out the finer points.

i dunno, i'd say the next step for psytrance would be to disappear up its own arse ;)

Some cynics would say that happened years ago. It's needed a new direction for sure, if it doesn't you could be right. Though I don't think the music itself will ever implode in on itself.

If it has a new sound and different take from the norm it's all good imo.

I'm not so clued up on micro genres of psytrance either so I can't comment. I chose those terms as that is tthe kind of psytrance I seem to like more than most, when I'm in the mood for psytrance that is, I'm not a slave to it.

What I lke is....

I've been faffing around a lot with a hardSID 4U, I'll prob have a go at splitting the hairs of psy genres further and make some PsySID haha!

I would like for it to take as many new directions and possible rather than just one. But I would like for each new direction to be given a new sub genre classification cus thats just turns me off.

To turn itself into something relevant to people's lives.

Oops sorry, that's punk rock isn't it.

Psytrance turns you off?

Overt categorisations turn me off. Psytrance is fair enough its psychedelic, trance. Rather explains its self. but dark, morning, forest, mid afternoon psy tea. They have no relevance it seems.

Something really good will always come along that is unless human passion and creativity sees to be. If your starting out with the prerequisite that it needs to fit a label in this case 'psy' then it might well be that you'll miss what ever it may be. My advice is not to try and second guess what or where it might be but to keep and open mind so you don't miss it when ever its there. If it is of value to you then missing it should be very hard.

I've always thought the difference between dark and forest psy is that forest psy is more organic and not as crazy as dark psy

Jesus christ here we go again. if you don't like it then fuck off.

Hahaha +1
