Before discovering psy?
Not much really as I got interested in music a couple of months before this godsent moment! (before that, I had gotten to the sad realisation that music was utterly useless; me being bombed from all corners by all these massive hits of Snap & 2 unlimited  He-he, what an irony! )

So if memory serves right:

Paradise Lost (Sweetness -from the EP- was the first tune ever that spoke volumes to this young's man soul! :punk: )
My Dying Bride
Black Sabbath
Rainbow
Dio(yes! :Smile3: )
Blind Guardian(yes yes! )
Nick Cave
and I remember liking a tune from Stiltskin. Inside was the name I think (or something like that)

Was just turning 16 :byebye:

And I hated U2. Still do!

No way!!

Cardiacs have been my most favouritest band in the whole world [window] since about 1986. They are, quite simply, unique and remarkable.

J, I salute you for your impeccable taste. You are forgiven for the "Madness transgression".

In no particular order [except the first four];

1. Cardiacs.

2. Pink Floyd.

3. Kraftwerk.

4. Scientist.

5. King Tubby.

6. Plump DJ's

7. The Specials

8. The Barry Gray Orchestra

9. Grandaddy

10. The Stranglers [before Hugh left...]

Heh - think you mentioned 'em a wee while back... To my eternal shame I haven't seen them live yet.

It was the same mate who originally weaned me away from early dance music, and onto the alternative (mostly guitar-based) stuff. Think it was a third-generation copy of a live bootleg or something (making mine a fourth-generation copy... for years I thought they sounded like they had a permanent cold). It was in amongst not-so-good stuff, like Carter USM and The Levellers... but hey, I was 14.

Got 'Guns' on the off-chance a little while back (while looking for music to ease a break-up... rediscovering teenage-era bands always works for me there....) and spent the afternoon grinning like an idiot. Need to get hold of more...

J.

* - Oh yeah, I guarded those tapes with my life for years, only to have them nicked along with the rest of my worldly possessions at Glasto 1995. I was inconfuckingsolable. (although I hate to admit it, at the time I mourned the loss of '101 Damnations' a bit more.. )
